Aussie Adventure Part 2 ~ Off to Sydney

July 9th and 10th, or maybe 11th, I've missed a day somewhere in my travel journal...hmmm, could be vacation brain farts!

Moving a group of people efficiently and quickly is a near impossibility.  We arrived at the airport for our flight into Sydney with mere seconds to spare.  Of course this was fine until Rusty and I discovered we were actually flying on Jetstar, an Aussie budget airline similar to Southwest but with a charge of three dollars per soda (Paying for Coke on an airplane and no free refills in restaurants, how does one live with these injustices?).  We had no time for tearful goodbyes with Di, Med, Bill and Tracey, rather we rushed to our gate  as the true Lewis in me came out and I was of course stressed about not being there the full one hour required by the airline. You may laugh at this tendency but the Lewis family can boast a near perfect record of catching flights.  Rachel met us at the airport and walked us to the gate.  Again, I'm amazed that this is still allowed, but there you have it.

After arriving in Sydney, Phil cooked dinner filled with vegetables and spices, something we've been missing during our stay in FNQ (Far North Queensland).    Rusty and Art decided to go out to enjoy a pint and meet the locals in a bar.  Of course, as Rusty's luck would have it, he and Art attracted a giant (taller than Rusty) psycho that wanted to pick a fight.  It appears this fellow thought Art was saying "see you next Tuesday" type remarks about him.  American diplomacy won out and the fellow eventually left.  This person was the first of several drunken psychos we ran across in Sydney.

The next day, a trip to the world famous Bondi Beach.  The entire area was beautiful, truly a paradise.  One can imagine that during the Aussie summer, this place would be choc-a-block with tourists and surfers.  The cliff walks were stunning.  All in all a pleasant day.

A quick dinner at a pub and Rusty, Art and I went out to meet some of Phil's friends at the Flinders bar.  In the "Small World" category, Rusty saw a guy from Brisbane he had initially met while working in LA.  We also attracted another pyscho.  This poor drunk fellow was obnoxious but not entirely dangerous, that didn't stop one of Phil's friends from having him thrown out of the bar.  Harsh, but we were somewhat grateful.  Note to self, don't piss off Phil's friends.
